Golden book charm

Overall cute golden book. The early sixties drawings have great charm. My five year old, who knows his alphabet well, did struggle a little deciphering the letters due to the frilly fonts sometimes used in the book. However, this book wasn't really purchased to be a teaching abc book.

Beautiful book for children, featuring both the faith and fun of Christmas

Very sweet book with cute old-fashioned pictures. One other reviewer does make passing mention of this, but I didn't really see it before I ordered. The book is focused on both the fun and the faith parts of Christmas--S is for Santa, but J is for Jesus. A is for Angels, right off the bat, and I had no idea that was coming until I opened the book. It's actually fine with me--we are Christians but we live in a very diverse and multi-cultural area, and I now like the book even more than I expected to because it does have both these sides of the holiday woven into a nice tapestry of celebration. So, it's not so much a criticism of the BOOK as it is of the description, which is lacking.
Also, I wish when they renewed the copyright in the 90's and/or whenever they did the reprint, they had just done a little bit of editing to a few of the kids to reflect *some* diversity. I'm pretty sure every single person portrayed in this book is white, and primarily blond, too. I get it, it was originally illustrated almost sixty years ago, But, like, there's a children's choir in one page that could have easily been updated to reflect changing sensibilities in America. Maybe it's just me, but I wanted to add that as another information note in case you are looking for a book that will better reflect/portray your family.

Beautiful, darling little Christmas book...

I bought quite a few Christmas books for my children ages 1 and 3 this past Christmas. This was my favorite. I love the beautiful vintage illustrations. It's so full of things to talk about with them. It's absolutely precious and endearing. I wish this was made in the larger, more substantial "Big Golden Book" series. I adore Little Golden Books, but I worry about them holding up with my kids. I'm keeping this one up on the top shelf! It's a treasure!
