These guys are GREAT!

As a recently diagnosed adult ADD'er this book is wonderful! Things that I have struggled with my entire life finally make sense. The short attention span is only a small part of ADD or ADHD as it has all become recognized as. There are a whole host of other "issues" that are directly related that once a person can get their head around then can more effectively deal with. This book is written with the ADD'er in mind first in small bites so that we can easily take the information learned "chew on it for a while" and then figure whether or not it applies and if so how we can then in turn use the information to improve our lives. Secondly, it is written with a sharp sense of humor so the read is an enjoyable one, you look forward to the journey.I hope this helps and if you do get the book that it helps you as much as it has me.

This little book is by Rick Green (The Frantics, "Prisoners of Gravity", "History Bites", "The Red Green Show") and Dr. Umesh Jain (one of Canada's leading experts on ADD)---who also gave us the documentary "ADD...and Loving It???" and the TotallyADD.com website. Both authors also have ADD, so the advice in this book has been personally tested by them, to make sure it works for people with ADD!

When you have ADD, big blocks of text are very daunting. So when Green & Jain wrote this book, they made sure it had many tiny chapters, peppered with comic comments from them, and even some little cartoons.

If you get this book in Kindle format (of course, you'll want to make sure you OWN a Kindle first!), you can enlarge the font, and break it up into even smaller bits, spread over more pages.

Lots of answers, lots of great advice from people who've been there & done that & bought the T-shirt (but forgotten where they put it, so they have to get another one, and as they're putting it away, they find where they put the first one, so now they have two), and lots of laughs!

This is my kind of book. I love the way they put this together. It is funny, informative and has short chapters. The authors have helped me to embrace my ADHD and live my life without shame and guilt.

Beryl Bainbridge was the author of seventeen novels. The Dressmaker, The Bottle Factory Outing, An Awfully Big Adventure, Every Man For Himself and Master Georgie were all finalists for the Booker Prize, and Every Man For Himself won the Whitbread Novel of the Year Prize. The Guardian includes The Bottle Factory Outing on their list of the 100 Greatest Novels of All Time. An Awfully Big Adventure was adapted for a film starring Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman.

Beryl Bainbridge died in July 2010.

With the centennial of the Titanic disaster now approaching, Europa Editions has re-published Beryl Bainbridge's 1996 novel Every Man for Himself, the Whitbread Award-winning novel of the ship's doomed voyage, a concise and "awe-full" story of life and death, primarily among the first class passengers, most of them super-rich industrialists and their heirs. A nephew of J. P. Morgan, recently graduated from Harvard, tells the story, providing a new, first person vision of the ship's lively social life from April 12 through the ship's demise on April 15. Fictional characters who feel real mix with real characters whose presence on the ship is well documented, as Bainbridge recreates the giddy excesses and the sense of entitlement exhibited by the top deck passengers.

The speaker, an orphan, has been raised by his aunt and his cousin, but he has always thought that he was special. "I don't care to be misunderstood," he avers, "I'm not talking about intellect or being singled out for great honours, simply that I was destined to be a participant rather than a spectator of singular events," a statement that reveals more about his attitudes than he probably intends. After prep school and Harvard, and an active social life befitting a member of J. Pierpont Morgan's family, he worked for Thomas Andrews, the naval architect in charge of the plans for the Titanic, and indirectly for his cousin J. P. "Jack" Morgan, one of the owners of the White Star line which commissioned the ship. Though his contribution was small, young Morgan, interested in the Titanic, makes the trip with friends, enjoying all the well described amenities of the first class passengers.

Bainbridge's trademark wit and her perfect, pointed descriptions keep the novel moving, and as the passengers engage in their own personal mini-dramas, Bainbridge provides sly descriptions of these characters, providing color and a cinematic quality to the scenes. A woman arrives at dinner, escorted by "a pink porpoise of a man." The "unsinkable Molly Brown," described here simply as "Mrs. James Brown," wears a gigantic hat "on whose brim languished an entire stuffed bird." Morgan describes dancing with one woman as being "like holding cut glass...she made him feel he left finger marks." The speaker notes that Chairman Bruce Ismay of the White Star line, was "unlike most Englishmen, he lacked apathy."

When the ship hits the iceberg, it is regarded primarily as a momentary interruption, perhaps even a hoax. Ultimately, the passengers and their responses to the emergency become the main story, and readers will be appalled by the loss of lives which might have been saved, even at that late hour, had more care been taken to save more of those "below decks." Bainbridge creates no scapegoats, however, and says barely a word about the behavior of the captain, Edward J. Smith or J. Bruce Ismay, the highest ranking White Star official aboard. Bainbridge's contribution is a worthy and beautifully written novel- witty, insightful, and consummately ironic. Ultimately, a few of her elite passengers may sense, if not believe, that "there was something dishonourable in survival." Mary Whipple

Didn't feel it like I wanted to.

We all know the story of the Titanic, we know the types of people we will meet and you would be hard pressed to find an adult who couldn't anticipate the ending. This combination of things makes writing a captivating book about the ship somewhat difficult. You really have to have language and everything down in order to reel someone in, or at least have some sort of unique twist on it.

This book uses the Titanic to reflect human nature back at the reader, but that seems the regular sort of thing to do when you are looking at tragic events. It is told through the eyes of someone who has somewhat lost his standing in the upper class, which makes it different and gives his narration the chance to be a little more on point than usual as he looks at what he came from versus where he is now., but overall I don't know that anything jumped out at me as outstanding.

This book was nominated for awards, but I don't know that it was more than just okay for me. I think people who read Titanic novels expect to feel the deepest sympathy with the passengers and come away understanding their suffering. I just didn't think this book held any feeling for me in that regard, as I didn't have any emotional connection to even one of the characters in any way. It wasn't horrible, but it was just okay and I'd hoped for something a little more.

Crisp, interesting writing style, strong character development, fascinating subject. Although we readers know what's about to happen in the Titanic, no one could predict what was going to happen to the characters and how their real character would develop. Excellent read.

As we have come to expect, Pratt is exceptional.

Everyone with even a causal interest in business valuation respects Shannon Pratt. He lives up to his reputation in The Market Approach. My favorite is the contrast and comparison of the different data available for private transactions.
If there is any criticism, it has to be his subtle efforts to market Pratt's Stats. No one would blame him too much for that.

A very good book for reference

I have purchased and read many of Dr. Pratt's books and this title is probably the best book that he wrote/authored. The book has a good number of examples to help you understand many of the key concepts. This book is much easier to understand than the other books that he wrote/co-authored with other folks earlier in his consulting/publishing career.

His research interests are in persuasive attack and image repair communication.

Nancy J. Legge received her Ph.D. from Penn State University and is currently a professor in the James E. Rogers Department of Communication, Media, and Persuasion at Idaho State University. Outstanding Second Volume

This is the second volume of the two volume Acts commentary Barrett wrote in the International Critical Commentary series in the 1990s.

The late, great Professor C.K. Barrett was a learned scholar whose attention to grammatical detail, breadth of historical knowledge, attention to narrative flow, and familiarity with European scholarship all contributed to a most impressive biblical commentary. This is an extremely thorough work that pays close attention to the Greek text (note that, as with all ICC volumes, thankfully the Greek is not transliterated). For some, Barrett's thoroughness is distracting, confusing, or immaterial. For others, it is a godsend. Anytime I have encountered a particularly confusing passage in Acts, Barrett has helped me find my way. He does so in a way that respects the story while critically engaging the text at the same time.

Along with Luke Timothy Johnson's Acts commentary in the Sacra Pagina series, this is my favorite Acts commentary. Bede's Acts commentary (published by Cistercian Press) is also worth investing in. Together these three commentaries should give any pastor, student, or teacher a formidable array of resources that cover every important grammatical, historical, and theological detail.

For this reason the industry has now focused its attention on the general concept of optimization and to the different techniques (mainly mathematical techniques) to reach it.

Optimization Methods for Gas and Power Markets presents both theoretical elements and practical examples for solving energy optimization issues in gas and power markets. About the Author
Enrico Edoli is Founder and CEO of Phinergy, a consulting firm which produces analytics and quantitative tools for energy trading and risk management. He has published several technical articles and a book related to quantitative energy finance. He is also Lecturer of a course in Mathematical Finance at the University of Padova. Enrico has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Padova, Italy and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the same university.

Stefano Fiorenzani is a recognized expert in Energy Trading and Risk Management, with a career spanning numerous top European energy companies and financial institutions. He has published several scientific and business articles and three books on advanced methods in the energy finance area. Stefano is Founder and Chairman of Phinergy. He holds a degree in Economic Science, a Master of Science in Financial Economics and a PhD in Mathematical Finance.

Tiziano Vargiolu is Associate Professor of Probability and Statistics at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Padua, Italy, since 1998. There, he has taught courses on Probability, Statistics and Quantitative Finance at undergraduate, master's and PhD level, and directed PhD and master's theses in Financial Mathematics. His research interests span a wide range of topics including stochastic optimal control, pricing of contingent claims, portfolio optimization, interest rates models, credit risk and energy markets.

The August 26, 2015 reviewer is correct in that there are some typos and at least one misuse of speech in this first edition and they will be corrected if there is enough interest for me to publish a corrected and expanded second edition. The reviewer suggests you read Mr. Greene's book instead, and while his books are excellent, I view his voice and message as distinctly different than mine.

Furthermore, the reviewer admits he did not take the time to fully read my book, which would've only taken him about an hour to do, but still feels he can appropriately label it as "paranoia" with "the author... constantly looking over his shoulder, watching for the boogeyman." Emulating Mr. Greene's poetic and heightened writing style, he states "Where this book is flawed and reeks of amateur, Greene's book is slick and authoritative."

I don't think my book is for everyone, because not everyone is willing to honestly evaluate how the self interest of others can, at times, collide with their own self interest. If you want a book with no grammatical errors, that is politically correct, and will not challenge your thinking in any way, then this book is not for you. If, on the other hand, you find the subject matter interesting based on the description below and are open minded enough to have your views challenged, then give this book a try. At present I have lowered the price from $2.99 USD to 99 cents in hopes of generating more interest in the book, and hopefully more balanced reviews.

If you know anything about Amazon sales rank and pricing, then you know that very little revenue has been generated from this book. I didn't write and publish this for the money. This book is not a joke. Psychological warfare is happening all around you regardless of whether you admit or not. Why continue to be an unknowing victim? Why continue to hopelessly wish that the world becomes fair? Why not understand the methods others are using against you so that you can know what your options are to defend yourself? You can be a good person with a strong sense of self while engaging in psychological warfare. And you don't have to lose your mind in the process.

This brief book of approximately 10,000 words is about the way the world really works and what you can do about it. It is not a book about being nice to people and actively listening to them. Those books have their place, and I'm not necessarily knocking them, but this book won't waste your time with politically correct tactics that you're already smart, studied, and savvy enough to know about.

This is a book about confronting your private thoughts about inevitable conflicts. Some of this book may completely shock you and cause you to confront reality for what it truly is. Think of this book as Lao Tzu meeting Sun Tzu meeting Machiavelli meeting Napoleon Hill and formulating a practical treatise for our time.

No matter how little or how much money or power you have, you'll be attacked and exploited. But in the wake of conflict and stress, you can be happy and self expressed, as this is ultimately a book about enjoying life's highest victories. Please join me on this journey.
