Let me just say, I had to buy 2 of these because my parents are divorced but still enjoy the same things. My dad works on a lot of heavy machinery and my mom travels a lot via car. This is a wonderful gift to give someone who spends a lot of time in a vehicle of any sort. The stories are engaging and well performed. My parents love the gift. It took extra time to deliver to my dad because he lives in the middle of nowhere. My mom received her gift on time because she lives near a major city.

Hard to go wrong with any Crichton story, and this has two of the three I really have enjoyed on cassette for many years over and over. His writing is one of the few writers I've come across that I never get tired listening to each book over and over.

An excellent summary of things that an early stage startup founder needs to know about raising capital. Carlos has done a great job of pulling everything together in one place. Personally, I would have enjoyed a little bit more of Carlos' hard-hitting and opinionated style from his blog and public speaking.

The section on startup valuation is extremely helpful for founders trying to value their startup before asking for outside investment. Great stuff.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but I can't fault them for that. They were looking for a different audience of people starting their own business and needing funds for that. It's not about charity type fundraising. But the info is pretty good. Some of it is very basic and obvious, but maybe that is necessary and/or appeals to some. As the book goes along, there are more details about how much money to raise (as much as you can) and many ideas about how to get what you need. It's not a book Id tell everyone about, but it's a good read and I think it would be helpful.

Tesla tinkered with everything from X-rays to wireless communications and even attempted a primitive form of the radio. While Tesla was not able to successfully execute the devices and concepts he foresaw, his forward thinking in fields like wireless communication certainly proved prescient, and his futuristic devices and his later reputation for eccentricity helped create the “mad scientist” image that still remains a pop culture fixture. Tesla seemed to have come to grips with this aspect of his legacy late in life, noting, “The scientific man does not aim at an immediate result. He does not expect that his advanced ideas will be readily taken up. His work is like that of the planter — for the future. His duty is to lay the foundation for those who are to come, and point the way.”

Tesla, the man with a plan.

Did you know that there were only a very few REAL Tesla coils ever built? It is true. The so called Tesla coils you see and read about are not Tesla coils at all. They are really Lodge coils that have nothing to do with Tesla at all. How did a little slip of using the words, Primary and secondary by Tesla himself to describe his devices cause so much confusion early on and still exists to this very day? See how modern science bypassed much of the great work of Tesla. So just what was Tesla really doing? What fantastic new type of energy did he discover. Why did the inventor of the ac power system we all use today abandon all further research of AC power and put all his effort into his new discovery? This book lays the ground work to answer that question.
A must read book to get the real story behind the man with a plan.

no illustrations?

just got it today. though i realized it has no illustrations. they reference to the figures, (as they should) but you have nothing as far as visual aid. kinda pointless. hint... hint ... and to top it all off, without much looking i found this lecture on the web for free and with the illustrations. like the other guy said .. its an addition to a library. other wise save your money and read it online.
