A book that applies the learn-by-example method

This book is of great value, it is one of the best calculus book I have ever encountered. Mr. Leithold really explains the lessons step-by-step by truly applying the "learn by example"method in teaching. Many examples are given ranging from simple to complicated ones. It will really guide the student in developing his calculus skills. Another thing more, the author uses very plain language in explaining the topics in the book. This helps giving students some motivation in a subject that is traditionally looked as a very difficult one. Coverage on the theoretical and applied aspects of calculus are kept into balance by presenting proofs into both simple and complex theorems while simultaneously providing sample problems dealing with real-life applications that gives an idea to students the practical side of what they are learning. Loads of problems to solve are present that will also aid the student to develop and practise. In addition, the book provides a good guide in learning calculus in conjunction with a graphics calculator. Numerous examples are provided guiding the learner in the use of the graphics calculator in a certain calculus topic.

Excellent Text

As one of many people who were daunted by math texts that were poorly written, confusing, stuffed with pictures and meaningless examples, and plagued with mistakes and wrong answers in the back, I say "Thanks" to Louis Leithold for writing well crafted, well ordered, relevant, and challenging yet comprehensible math texts. Even though I was able to get good grades in all my math classes, there were many times when I simply didn't understand why the things I was doing worked. I knew the techniques, but I had no understanding of the math behind them. The texts that Leithold wrote -- all of them -- opened my eyes to the why as well as the how, and made me a much better mathematician than I was before. If you want to know math, or have kids who are stymied by the awful texts they a forced to cope with today, get Leithold's math texts. They are excellent, relevant, and if they are not on Amazon, can still be found with just a bit of looking and usually for a good price.

I have all the well written textbooks for the Calculus I, II, and III sequence. This includes Michael Sullivan, Thomas & Finney,
James Stewart, Larson & Edwards, Tom Apostol, and both volumes of Courant. These are well written at the right level of rigor for their target audience. They are all part of permanent reference library.

However, the standout text in my collection is "The Calculus 7" by Louis Leithold and I am fortunate enough to have the instruct-
ors solutions manual. Leithold has written the best standard text at this level period. The only caveat is that this is not a text for
unmotivated students who are not well prepared in Precalculus or not highly motivated. It is not written for the average student or
Liberal Arts major (not a disparagement, just a fact).

Leithold, does not take prisoners - his approach is simple and unapologetic. He presents very clear explanations, great illus-
trations, and fully worked out examples of every topic in the book. It must also be said that his book is the best one written for
those going on to DE's, Linear Algebra, and Analysis.

I could go on complimenting this text, but you get my point. If you are highly motivated and have mathematical ability then you
should have a copy of this book. Compare any topic in this book to the same topic in any other text and you will see what i mean.
I discovered this when using Leithold to review my notes from other textbooks and decided to rewrite my notes (2 years worth)
using Leithold and do the exercises from his book although I did retain my worked out exercises from the books mentioned in the first paragraph of this review.

Get a copy of this book while it is still available. If you want a great book on DE's get "Ordinary Differential Equations" by
Tenenbaum & Pollard - this book is a real treat.

Buy the Kindle. "Just Do IT"

I failed this exam but here's why: First, I don't like these Exam Ref books due to their inconsistency in providing depth. I knew this going in and read this first and not expecting much; it was and is a quick read. I then dived into Pluralsight and CBTNuggets and Anderseid's blog and SharePointArron's. I read it all. I read the ADFS section in MOC20412D - well worth it. I have my own tenant and experimented on that.

I failed mostly because of DIRSync and that's my fault. While prepping and leading up to the exam I used this ref book but skipped the section on DIRSync. I instead focused some on AADConnect and not much else due to MS updating the tool. When I went back and read this chapter those questions were answered in the book.

I think this is the first Exam Ref book that's worth it for a frist read and the days leading up to the exam. Read it cover to cover and understand what's going on and you may pass. I'm to eschedule and I'll pass that retake - I just have to perform exactly the same.

If anyone is curious this isn't my first my exam. I'm A+ and MCSA 7/8 certified. Though I should have checked the exam criteria a little more closely. Goodluck!

Good Starting Point for the first exam 70-346

Been through the book, and going to take my exam soon. This book will provide you with a excellent foundation for the exam. The information in the book is laid out in a nice logical manner with plenty of screen shots. The author does a good job of explaining the material in a easy way. You should not have a problem following the book.

That being said, before you take the exam you should have some hands on experience to help with the concepts and I always recommend some additional exam prep like exam practice exams to ensure that you have everything down. Write down and really know your powershell commands.

Just passed the 70-346 exam on the first try. Good book, easy to read, covers all the topics. Read this book, watched some CBTNuggets videos, , had some hands on experience, passed the test first try. Do sign up for a free trial O365 subscription because Microsoft does move things around and you will want to know where you need click to pass the test.

As someone else said, this is a VERY simple book, but that is good. It's not a book in the sense that it's filled with a bunch of words, sentences, chapters,etc. No, it is a series of different poems that relate to each of the 5 main chapters of what they book is about...which is confidence/self-esteem. I read most of the poems as they applied to me, I could relate to almost all of them. When you read them, you think, that's pretty lame, that's so silly, then...you're like...man....that's ME!! I do that!!! It's not a book or poems that's going to fix you, or tell you what to do to fix yourself, but for me, it was an eye opener on what I am doing, and what i need to stop doing, stop worrying about. Anyway, I got a lot from it, I hope you do too.

Incredible habit-changing story.

Being creatures of habit, human beings often have downfalls and pieces of themselves that inhibit them that they would like to change. This short book really helps with a wonderful analogy to show in plain terms what it is we do when we are forced into a habit. Geoffrey A. Hirt is currently Professor of Finance at DePaul University and Director of Equity Research at Mesirow Financial. He received his PhD in Finance from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, his MBA from Miami University of Ohio and his BA from Ohio-Wesleyan University. Geoff has directed the Chartered Financial Analysts Study program for the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago since 1987. From 1987 to 1997 he was Chairman of the Finance Department at DePaul University and taught investments, corporate finance, and strategic planning. He developed and was director of DePaul's MBA program in Hong Kong and has taught in Poland, Germany, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Geoff has published several books. Additionally, Geoff is well known for his book Fundamentals of Financial Management published by Irwin/McGraw-Hill. Now in its eighth edition, this book is used at over 600 colleges and universities worldwide, and it has been translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. Geoff plays tennis and golf, is a music lover, and enjoys travelling with his wife, Linda.
