No outline - Questions way too HARD to be represenative MBE's - but you will learn a lot.

This is not an outline - this contains Questions and Answers (and explanations) ONLY.

I purchased this along with "Civil Procedure MBE Practice Questions" (AmeriBar.) Neither of these two have an outline. They are just questions and answers.

The 124 "MBE's" in this book seem way too hard for MBE's. Keep in mind that we haven't yet seen real MBE's (as of Jan 2015) other than the ten questions released by NCBE, but compared to the MBE's I've seen in other subjects these questions are way harder than real MBE's. They often siting specific (and obscure) code numbers, which is likely not the way the MBE will be. I got about 60% of the questions correct.

This book will help you learn the rules (although maybe a little too much in detail) as you work through your wrong answers but I don't think it is representative of what you will see on the Bar Exam.

Conversely, AmeriBar's "Civil Procedure MBE Practice Questions" has 264 "MBE's" but they seem way too easy. I'm testing somewhere in the 85% and CivPro is one of my weakest subjects. That book is more like practicing with flash cards. It's basically testing your understanding of simple rules but not necessarily how they would be applied in full blown MBE questions, which are more in depth than just rule statements.

I just completed the 50 questions from Wolters Kluwer's "MBE Civil Procedure Questions" and feel they are as close to what a real MBE looks like as any CivPro MBE's I've seen. It is well worth the money. That book is not currently available on Amazon but can be purchased for $30 through Aspen Law's website. I have downgraded my review of "Mastering Multiple Choice for Fedearl Civil Procedure MBE..." from four to three stars after find Wolters Kluwer book because it is a much better deal for the money.

Not an outline or overview, but 124 good practice questions and answers

I am giving this 4 stars because it was really helpful for me. I brought up my study questions from 50% to 70%+ mainly by going through all of the questions and making flashcards from my wrong answers. (There were a lot!) But, I was expecting an outline or some sort of outline or overview of the basics of Civ Pro, since I am more or less starting from scratch (I finished law school and took my last bar exam in 2007). Reading the description again, I can see that it doesn't promise to be anything else, but I wanted to write the review in case anyone else was similarly confused.

This has a helpful introduction re approaching MBE questions, but it is NOT an outline. All of the Civ Pro you learn, you learn from answering the practice questions and looking at the answers.

Don't purchase for MBE prep!

If you're looking to purchase this book for bar exam prep, please look elsewhere. The questions are just too detailed and are not representative of what is actually tested on the MBE. I just sat for the July bar exam, and the civil procedure questions on the exam are simpler. This book tests obscure rules with complicated factual situations. Don't stress yourself with this book .There is enough stress that accompanies the bar exam as it is. Do not add more to your life.

Blacks have been bursting through the constraint of such barriers and limitations for centuries now. In the last sixty years in America others who have come before you have laid much broken glass at the feet of Black America. Yet, who placed the barriers; who at first constrained us in the boxes with the glass ceilings? Certainly it was not us. We live in a world not of our own making. I want so very much for my Black community, but not that which can be given, nor granted. No, what I want mostly for my Black community must be taken, it must be acquired through express and diligent intent. It can only be birthed through aggressive and intelligent design; whereas, you must commit your life-time to craft it, to engineer your acquisition and construction of it. You must want it with the utmost zeal, and once acquired you must value it as your most prized possession. What I want most for my Black community is true Legacy.

Dameon V. Russell, is the Co-Founder of The Russell Group and the Black Business Council of America, (The BBCA), he is a 25 year veteran of Real Estate, Finance, and Business Development. He has been a noted sales and productivity Trainer and Coach; he is a Branch Owner in Real Estate, Mortgage, and Insurance, and specializes in Commercial Finance. Dameon is the Project Lead for The Russell Group Project, a Small Business Development Center. He believes a lack of Financial Literacy across many Small Business sectors has led to a measurable deficiency in general business acumen and higher fail rates for Black owned Small Business ventures. The Russell Group Project is a Small Business Owner collective self-tasked with increasing the success rate of Small Business through Financial Literacy education, business training, value-added free workshops, and easy access to Commercial Finance. Additionally, Members benefit from education and training on successful marketing strategies, the application of technology in their business, social media techniques, and Business Continuation strategies to ensure the survivability of their business. Dameon Russell and The Russell Group Project are based in the greater Sacramento, California area. The BBCA is focused on the education of Black business owners; this book, Financial Literacy & Ownership is intended to enlighten, empower, and awaken the Black community. Mr. Russell spent time years ago mentoring & tutoring urban students in Oakland, CA public schools. He witnessed first-hand, and worked with many students who had deficient reading and writing skills, as well as an almost total lack of Financial Literacy. High school seniors who were just mere months away from entry into adult society unable even to write a check properly, to say nothing of actually balancing a check book or managing finances. These children, had a horribly miss-guided understanding of Ownership and no desire nor urgency to change that. Mr. Russell began every lecture, and conversation with these youth by explaining to them the value of Ownership by at first trying to define Ownership. Explaining, we don’t own the homes we live in, the cars we drive, the manufacturing plants making those cars, the theaters we see movies in, nor the film companies making those movies. They simply didn’t get it, nor value it. It was then Mr. Russell realized that Financial Literacy was lacking in the students, because it was lacking in the home.

pretty powerful message

Wow, pretty powerful message. Not "militant" at all, just powerful. Dameon Russell has much to say & delivers in this truly powerful and necessary wake-up call for the black community. We Blacks need to bust the stereo types which subconsciously confines us; like Mr. Russell says, it's all about awareness and the only way we get out of the situation is to educate ourselves out. I only hope Mr. Russell's book attracts enough readers to really spark the fire! I recommend this book for EVERY black person!!

This book will make you think.......

I want to applaud the author for telling it as it is and bringing to light a truly necessary message . Generally speaking, Blacks do not own.
The formula to change this reality is increasing our collective understanding of what it means to own, and how to begin to own. I agree with
Mr. Russell, the answer is Financial Literacy. This book has the message all Black people need to hear and to understand the desperate nature
of it. A clear, powerful, well delivered message and not a difficult read. I will be reading it again.

Great Book

Having had an interest in this story for several years, the research alone that went into telling this tale must have been enormous. We walk our dogs in Woodland Cemetery every day and have spent much time looking up the old newspaper clippings on the Pfanschmidt murders. Beth Lane has taken a complex and convoluted mountain of information and condensed it into a tale that can be read, understood and followed. I liked that my answer to the question of guity or not guilty continued to change while reading this book. The follow up on Ray, Esther and some of the other characters, made a great ending too. It finally made my mind up on what verdict I would have given, although the jurors would never have had the benefit of this information.... Great read, Great book! Thank you.

This story mainly takes place in 1912 after a horrendous murder is committed. The Pfanschmidt family was highly respected in the community and liked by their friends and neighbors.

Unfortunately, nobody would have predicted that four people would be found dead after a fire takes place in their home. Among the bodies uncovered we find Charles, his wife Mathilda, Blanche, their fifteen-year-old daughter and Emma Kaempen a schoolteacher all brutally murdered.

Ray their son was not found murdered and since he was not living at home that particular week naturally he is considered the number one suspect, as only he would have something to gain from this.

The police and many neighbors,relatives, Ray's fiancée and her family are questioned and even bloodhounds are brought in to see if they can find anything linking Ray to the murder. We must remember all the possibly new technology we have at our fingertips today was not available and so they have to use what they had.

Ray is fighting for his life as he says he did not do it and with the courtroom drama unfolding we hear testimony from the attorneys, a jailhouse informant, relatives of the family, results from bloodhounds and what forensic evidence was available and even a private detective who was hired.

Like myself you will wonder if this young man Ray, not quite twenty-one could have been involved or responsible in this terrible murder and how the town so wants him to be found guilty. The trial takes some twists and turns and does not end with a verdict but continues. It is a fascinating story as only Ms. Lane can tell when she realizes this is somewhat personal as her great grandfather was tied to the trial.

Must read book for any history buffs, especially in West Central Illinois!

Many times when I start reading a book I find myself getting bored fairly quick and not finishing it. This was not the case with this book. I spent too many night up late turning the pages quickly to see what happens next. I was asked by a friend if my interest in this book was due to the story or to the fact that I grew up no more than 5 miles away from where the murders took place (granted there was 70 year's difference) and I would have to say it was a little bit of both. Obviously this place which, eventually was the location for a bar known appropriately as "The Haunted Tavern", was a place that I traveled by regularly but with all the other axe murders that took place in that time frame, I found the detailed information in this book very interesting.

If there is anyone else interested in the early 1900's Midwest axe murders, I highly encourage you to look into the Villisca axe murder that took place prior to the Pfanschmidt murders. There was also a case in Kansas as well as central Illinois all around the same time in which none of the murders were solved.

Going back to the book, as I was reading it I felt that the title "Lies told under oath" was not the right way to explain the situation. I felt like the author was applying the title to Ray, the son accused of the murders. But by the end of the book I did not feel that way. Someone was most certainly lying about what happened but we may never know who.

On a final note, I have heard rumors that the author has uncovered some more details about the case. I hope that she will expand on it with another book or with an update on her website.

Perfect for the test!!!!

I have taken TOEFL Test and scored 115/120... Certainly, this book was important during my preparation. Actually, I first bought the Barron's Superpack, and it was really useful because it has 8 model tests, and I really like to overprepare... When there were only a few weeks before the test, I bought this book from the test-makers, and I believe it was a great deal... Even though it only contains 3 model tests (quite a few in my opinion, but ETS is working on it, releasing now volumes with actual tests), they are authentic ones and -as expected- provides students with a real sense of the test difficulty and what the test taker is expected to do in each type of question during the test. It explains all answers comprehensively, highlighting not only why one option is correct, but why the others are wrong. There are also plenty of examples of writing questions with actual students' texts and their scores; the same is true for speaking questions. Finally, the CD-ROM is, in my opinion, really good and I have not experienced any problems with it. However, its design on the screen and the way the students need to go from one question to another is a little bit different from the actual test.
In conclusion, I believe that if you are gonna take the test, buy this book; preferably, if you have time, in addition to another book with more model tests, even though they will not be authentic...

CD HAS to be installed, unlike previous editions

In general, I think the ETS Guide is the best book to use for TOEFL preparation. In fact, I lobbied my college department for years in order to get them to switch to this book for our TOEFL prep program. They finally did, just in time for the 4th edition, and now I am totally pissed off about the CD change that came without warning! In the past editions, teachers could use the CD with their classes, because the CD allowed you to either install the test program or to just listen to the audio tracks. Since teachers are not allowed to install programs onto classroom computers, we now cannot use the part of the CD that requires installation. The 4th edition CD does not allow you to listen to the audio tracks without installing the software. So now all the students have books and the teachers have books, and we cannot play any of the audio tracks in class! There was no indication of that change at all before we got the book. I can't understand why ETS would make that change, surely knowing that many schools order the book for classes and that teachers would not be able easily access the audio tracks in class. Therefore, I give the book 4 stars instead of the 5 it would have otherwise.

I like how it prepares you to the test. It really gave me a different viewpoint and the reading about the different sections at the beginning of it is very very essential. I would recommend getting it but also do as many real tests as possible.

Some strong moments, but overall a silly plot

I remember reading this when it first came out. I thought the artwork was beautiful and it had a really dark, gritty feel. Even looking back, I have to say Dark Empire really produces an emotional response like no other work in the Expanded Universe timeline. Some moments were really wonderful, such as Leia's use of the holocron and the approach of the Dark Side guards on Byss. They really brought back some of the sense of "ancient mysteries" in the Star Wars universe.

Unfortunately, overall the series is just too riddled with plot holes and half-baked dialogue. It seems like overnight everything that had been achieved after the Battle of Endor was all for naught. Meanwhile, I don't mind the fact that Luke goes over to the Dark Side for example, but it's never really clear why or how he takes that momentous step. It's like at one moment he's spying, the next he's switching sides. By contrast, despite all the criticism the prequels get, I think they did a good job of showing why Anakin turned to the dark side and that it was a consequence of specific choices. In Dark Empire, it's almost like Luke just slips out of character.

I think a lot of fans imagine that Dark Empire series never happened. It certainly diverted the Expanded Universe from Timothy Zahn's more sophisticated plots. However, I do think DarK Empire has some value, especially as one of the truly dark entries into the Star Wars universe. I suspect you'll enjoy it if you want to - and are willing - to see your favorite heroes in a new light. You might get frustrated though if you care about the plot and continuity.

it covers most of the topics I found in the text; some physical principles are not very well expressed. Illustrations and tables are very good and clear; most of the times is better to look at the pictures than the text itself! I would definitely recommend this product for SPI test preparation

I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to pass the ARDMS Sonographic Physics registry. Dr. Kremkau is wonderful at explaining the principles necessary to understand and operate modern sonographic material. He doesn't
"dumb it down"--he simply explains the concepts.

Stefan Stenudd is a Swedish author and historian of ideas, who researches the thought patterns of myth in general and creation myths in particular. He has written a book about the cosmological and mythological ideas of the Greek philosophers, and one about the Chinese life energy Qi. He has also written bestseller books about the peaceful martial art aikido. He has practiced that art for more than 40 years. Aikido, too, evolved from ideas of a life energy.

Well done introduction for further study of life force theories

I have first edition of the book, which a have bought almost a year ago.

First part (mine edition has cca 30 pages, the new one has 24 more) of the book - Introduction - describes the evolution of mankind's approach to life energy from the ancient times of paleolith, rise of agriculture, entry of great world religions, to the Alchymism, Era of Enlightenment and the scientific theories of 20th century. Pity is that the introduction is brief, since there is lot of information mentioned, but on the other hand it is an introduction.

The second part of the book is Encyclopedia with entries from A to Z.

After reading it, I have to say, that the book is perfect introduction, when you are willing to study the life energy theories in depth - it has a lot of hints and pointers. What I would like to see in its second edition, is some more information from the non-writing cultures, such as Native Americans, Oceania etc. - if there are any, of course. What may also help is bibliography part, which was not attached in my edition.

The book does not cover exhaustively the subject, but opens horizons. But what is the best way to study life force, a book or the life?

Good reference source...

I have been, for quite some time, seeking just this information. I was pleased to find this book and although I am not finished reading it I have found it to be informative, if brief. The book, I don't think, was intenced to be a complete work on the subject, but rather sort of a beginners guide to get a person an idea of what sorts of things to look for with regard to the topic of this form of energy. I like the inclusion of other things related to the energies as well as things that have been described as such but are not related to it at all. I think this will be a considerable resource I will return to many times during my current pet project.
